Where is your thrift store?
We do not operate our own thrift store. We collect clothing and household donations and deliver it to Saver’s store. They in turn compensate us for our items and we use that revenue to provide services.
How does donating items help people with disabilities?
When you donate clothing and household tiems to our Donation Call Center the items, unless needed by participants, are delivered to the Savers Thrift Stores in Boise and Nampa. Savers pays The Arc for these items. The revenue generated from this partnership goes back in to support services provided.
Do my clothing and household item donations go to people with disabilities?
We do give any needed items to participants who receive our services. However, since we receive much more than is needed by our participants; the majority of donated items go to the Savers Thrift Stores.
What does "ARC" stand for?
It used to stand for the Association of Retarded Citizens. That acronym is no longer used. The people that we serve are people with disabilities, their disability does not define them. We always strive to see the person before we see their disability. This is referred to as "people first" language.
